Pluto The Racer
Biography
Pluto The Racer got together in 2019, the summer before the big pandemic. The boys, who were still 15-16 years old at the time, had previously had lessons with the same guitar teacher. When he noticed that Marlon (bass) and Paul (vox & drums) were looking for someone with whom they could start a band project, he paired them with Tim (guitar).
The three began rehearsing regularly but the impending pandemic blocked any chance of playing live, forcing them to retreat to their rehearsal space beneath a car repair shop. During this time they had the opportunity to develop as musicians and write their own songs for the first time.
As soon as the pandemic situation eased in the summer, they played occasional concerts. The first Pluto The Racer show took place in a small basement in Stadthagen in front of about 20 friends.
The following summer, Marlon, Paul and their friend Jannik attended a show by the band „No Pressure“ at the Faust in Hanover. The legendary Hannover hardcore outfit ANGST and Sunami from San José played in the opening spot. Impressed by the intimate and chaotic atmosphere, which was reminiscent of the basement shows, they never missed a show and integrated themselves into the Hanoverian hardcore scene. In the same summer, the three recorded their first demo, which was released in spring 2023.
With the release of the demo came the first hardcore show that the band was booked for. Also on the line up were I Recover and Phase. This was followed by a year with many shows, new acquaintances and experiences as well as the recording of the s/t EP.
The Pluto The Racer Ep was recorded together with Paul’s father in a rehearsal room in Stadthagen. The vocals were recorded in Paul’s parents’ closet, with a sieve covered by a sock serving as a pop filter. For the first time you really had the feeling that you had found yourself sound-wise. The main influences were the melodic offshoots of hardcore (No Pressure, Basement, Title Fight etc.) but also emo/punk sounds from the 90s and early 2000s.
