“The New America” is the eleventh studio album by the style-defining punk rock band Bad Religion.It was released in May 2000 by Atlantic Records.For the recordings, the band traveled to Kauai, Hawaii, from October to December 1999, where Todd Rundgren (Grand Funk Railroad, Hall & Oates, Meat Loaf, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, The Band, The Tubes, XTC) produced the album in the Victor “s Barn studio.Rundgren was one of the musicians that Bad Religion singer Greg Graffin had previously admired.However, the collaboration went rather poorly due to some differences. Nevertheless, the album was well received by the public and critics and sold over 150,000 copies. In Germany, “The New America” reached number 16 in the charts and number 88 in the USA. Bobby Schayer sat on the drums for the last time. Brett Gurewitz, although not a band member at the time, co-wrote “Believe It” and also played on the song. For the re-release, the songs were remastered from the original studio tapes, resulting in a clearer and more powerful sound.
